Ricky Allen Self, Sr. , age 54, of Englewood, Tennessee, passed away Friday, January 17, 2014 at a local hospital. A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a construction roofer for several years and was of the Baptist faith. He loved being outdoors, especially in the mountains, and enjoyed being around his family and friends. He is survived by his children, Keesha Raper of Madisonville, Rebecca Baldwin and husband Travis of Etowah, Ricky Self, Jr. and wife Michelle of Riceville, and Rocky Self and wife Rebecca of Athens; parents, William Millard Self and Betty Jo Martin; sister, Drenda Lankford and husband Ricky of Etowah; brothers, Steven Martin and wife Kathy of Etowah, Tony Self and wife Shirley of Cleveland, and Chris Self of Englewood. Anna Lucinda Smith Johnson, born August 7, 1918, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 23, 2014 surrounded by family at Starr Regional Medical Center of Athens. She was born in Monroe County but lived most of her life in McMinn County. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a longtime member of Union McMinn Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for several years. She was an avid reader and enjoyed reading the Bible through each year prior to her death. She was also a student of the Bible and read many commentaries and other books about the history of the Bible and its authors. She loved gardening and always had a vegetable and flower garden as long as she was able. She enjoyed sharing her vegetables and flowers with friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Olas Johnson, on October 8, 1990, and an infant son, Olas Johnson, Jr, her parents, Mary Louisa Self Smith, and James T. Smith, sisters, Vian Smith, Nellia Smith, Viola Smith, Alice Smith, Ada Smith Henegar, and Mary Ruth Smith Anderson, and brothers, Alvin Smith, William Ernest Smith, and Riley David Smith. She is survived by one son, Douglas Johnson of Niota, one daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Mark Lefler of Athens; one granddaughter and husband, Natalie and Richard Jason Knowles of Fayetteville, Georgia; and two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Noah Knowles of Fayetteville, Georgia; special nieces and nephews, Sandy Wyrick and husband Duane, Betty Tallent and husband Beecher, Carolyn Standridge and husband Glen, Joann Bledsoe and husband Billy, James Anderson and wife Marie, Margie Johnson Shell and husband Bill, and Janet Johnson Norwood, and several great nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
