TORNADO HIT TELLICO PLAINS, TENNESSEE
An apparent tornado hit the town of Tellico Plains on Friday afternoon, March 2. Numerous homes and buildings were destroyed. Fortunately no one was killed and only a few injuries were reported. Several Self family relatives live in the Tellico Plains area. Dillard Self and his daughter live on South Babcock Street which is right in the center of the worst hit area of the town. I have not been able to reach Dillard for comment due to telephone lines being down.
You may Google the internet for more information. There are several Youtube videos of the Tellico Plains area which show damage caused by the tornado Friday afternoon.
Updated 3-7-12... I was able to speak to Dillard Self last Monday evening. He said his home did not get damaged and that he and his daughter made it through the tornado just fine. Officials with the National Weather Service in Morristown, Tennessee have stated in an initial report that the tornado that hit Tellico Plains on March 2 was an EF-2 tornado, with high winds of approximately 130 mph. The tornado damaged an area 400 yards wide.

SELF FAMILY REUNION NOTES
The first day of autumn in the beautiful foothills of East Tennessee made a great setting for the annual Self Family Reunion. It was held Saturday, September 22 in Maryville, Tennessee at Pearson Springs Rotary Pavilion. The crowd this year was one of the biggest ever. There were approximately 100 in attendance. I heard lots of comments made about the large number of youth that attended this year. Unfortunately, I did not get a picture of everyone. Most of the young folks were not still long enough for me to get a quick snapshot. The weather was very pleasant and the food, as usual, was so delicious. Everyone seemed to really have a nice time. Pictures of the event will be posted as soon as possible.
